When I was little I loved to play in the Snow. I’m an only child so I would go play in the Snow with my cousins most of the time. I’ve built many a Snowman over the years, had several Snowball fights. One year we had enough Snow that my cousin’s & I built a little igloo up against my Dad’s car.
Now my cousin’s & I found the best place to go sledding in the Snow. We went to one of my Grandpa’s hay fields, so it’s wide open no trees. But the best part was the hill!! It was a Great sledding hill, very steep so steep that with all the Snow on it you couldn’t walk straight up it without holding onto something. There was a barbwire fence we could hold onto, but we didn’t think that was very safe. So we would walk the 200 feet to the not so steep part to sled down this great hill. Of course all the best spots for sledding in the Snow are hard to get to in the first place. We walked about a quarter of a mile crossed a creek, just to get to the best sledding spot that I have ever found. But it was so worth it!!
Now that I’m older those sledding day’s where some of the best times I spent in the Snow. Growing up my Dad was not really one to come play in the Snow with mom & I. I do remember one year that he came out & played in the snow with us. Well more pushed my mom & I down a hill in the backyard on sled’s, but we used washing machine lids & went almost into the dirt road that year. It was a good time in the Snow.
My son also got my love for the Snow. When he was little we got about a foot & a half of Snow, almost covered his head. He loved being out in the Snow so much, that when we came in from playing in the Snow, he bawled his head off. Now for most kids you think that might be normal. But not for him, he was never a crier so to see him cry so hard about coming indoors what actually funny to my husband & I. We where recording him crying & couldn’t hardly hold the camera still cause we were laughing so hard. Of course on this one particular day it was so cold outside that we only dared have him out in it for no more than 15 minutes at a time.
Of course all good things must come to an end. Now my son no longer likes to play in the Snow. He’s a teenager, but even before becoming a teenager I’ve had to drag him outside to play in the Snow. Why oh why do we have to grow up & no longer like to play in the Snow? The Snow is just one of the best parts of winter.
Having lived in Texas my entire life, I have only experienced real snow that I could play in once in my life. I was maybe 11 and went to Ohio with my parents to visit family at Christmas. I loved it! My cousins and I had snowball fights, built snowmen, snow castles and so much more! Thank you for sharing Amy!
